What if my child is a complete beginner?
That's fine — this works from the very first stage, before a child can read a single word. We ask how their reading is going when you sign up, and the first chapter starts a little easier than that, then finds their level over the first few sessions. If they can't manage a word, the voice reads it for them and the story keeps going. Nobody gets stuck.
How long does it take each night?
About five to ten minutes for a new chapter. But every chapter they've read stays on their shelf, so on nights when they want more, they can read as much as they like. Going back to a story they already know is one of the best things a new reader can do.
Do I need to sit with them?
You don't have to. The app reads everything aloud, so your child can start it and get through a chapter on their own — that's rather the point on the evenings when you're making dinner. You're welcome to sit with them, and plenty of parents do.
Does my child need to be able to use a phone or tablet?
They need to be able to press one large button. There's nothing to read, no menus, and no way to get lost or wander off into something else. It runs in any web browser, so there's no app to download.
